In The Odyssey, the readers have gone on many up and down rides, but there are many constants. The most important constant for me being hospitality. Hospitality is present quite frequently throughout The Odyssey. Odysseus travels to many places in the famous book disguised in his nobody costume and most of the time wherever he goes, he is received with a warm welcome and hospitality. The main example I can think of is when he went to go to the kingdom in Ithaca and was able to eat with King Alcinous. Even though the King had no idea who he was, what he had come for or where he was coming from. While reading the books so far, that theme has been the most constant for me. It really speaks to me and thats why I chose it. Hospitality is majorly important in The Odyssey and I believe that it is very important nowadays as well. Hospitality can be in any time period whether it be now or thousands of years ago. We need to keep hospitality around. The problem with Hospitality now is that we don't just let random strangers into our house and feed them, with the internet now. We need to know who they are and where they came from. Things that were not important while The Odyssey was taking place. I know that this theme is important and thats why I chose it. I believe that hospitality needs to be an everyday thing. Not a once in a while thing. So if you ever have the chance to be hospitable. Do it.
