“I Too Sing America” by Langston Hughes should be a piece that everyone knows, for it is a great poem with a great purpose, the way he weaves himself in and out of different references and hints is just amazing! Mr.Hughes does a great job of setting the scene, stating the theme and finishing it clean! I can honestly say, that I love almost all (if not all) of Mr.Hughes’s poems, they are just pure brilliance! My favorite part of this one was how he kept going back to the Kitchen part! The kitchen is a reference to slavery and all the hard times that African-American people while they were being oppressed. He also puts in a hidden message that they are growing stronger with every day and that there is slowly gaining power. The poem itself is basically stating the obvious, you can't hold us down anymore, we will not stand for this treatment! I love this poem and I am glad that I got to read it again! I would happily read it many more times, because I get something new out of it literally every time! Mr.Hughes always blows me with his poems and he continues to do so with every new poem he writes, so what are you waiting for? Go read one of his poems!
