Haikus are Power
Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.
You never know what's going to happen.A Haiku could lead you anywhere in the world, from staring out across the himalayas to practicing soccer in your own backyard. A haiku is the key to traveling anywhere in the world, with doing nothing but reading. A haiku has the power to move people to do almost anything in life. As I sat there writing some haiku late last Sunday evening, I realized that I wasnt writing any haiku at all. I was standing outside on the grass, staring at a soccer ball and getting ready to kick. A haiku has the ability to move you from the present to the past, or from the present to the future. There are no limits on what a haiku can and can't do, as long as you believe.
As I stare at my computer screen again, after writing another haiku, I realize, that a haiku doesn't have to be work.Haikus aren't meant to be known as “just another assignment”, they are meant to challenge and encourage you,to reminisce on the good things and the bad things that have happened, whether it be as little as not being able to stay up to watch a game, or getting ice cream after a soccer match. You can write a haiku about it. Haikus are what you make of them, if you think its going to be boring and uninteresting, then thats exactly what its going to be.However, if you embrace your haiku and put passion and emphasis into every word, you will be greatly rewarded. Writing a haiku is the journey, the final product isn't finally being done with writing a haiku, its looking at it with satisfaction, reading it and saying I wrote that with a big grin across your face. That, is the elixir of a haiku.
Writing a haiku for me has always been difficult, I have to sit down, focus and stare at the world around me, or think about the past or the future to right one, but now, with the world slowing down and everything starting back up again, it feels relaxing and calming. As I said before, that's how writing a haiku should feel “relaxing and calming”, because if you're feeling anything different, you must be doing it wrong.
